Testimonials

Read an interview below with Dave Edwards about his Columbia/ILSA machine!

CI: What made you decide to look at HydroCarbon Machines versus another Perc machine?

DE: My strip mall was looking at environmental issues at the time and although it was not required to use a different solvent for dry cleaning, I figured it could become an issue in a few years and decided now was the right time to make the change.

CI: What hesitations did you have at first looking at HydroCarbon as an alternative cleaning process?

DE: Well, I had heard that they didn’t clean as well as Perc machines. I was concerned about combustion and also, that drying times we longer. That is why the only machine I considered was Columbia because of the Quick-Dri technology they had in their machine. I had heard a lot of good things about that technology.

After one year – Dave’s Columbia/ILSA 55lb. TLHCS 550 HydroCarbon machine (which replaced a Perc 35lb.) is paying big dividends for his dry cleaning business!
CI: Now that you have been operating this machine for almost a year in your business, how do you feel now about your initial hesitations?

DE: I am happy to say that the cleaning is great in my Columbia TLHCS 550. I am very impressed with the ability of the machine to dissolve grease, gum and other tough stains. The results have been fantastic and I and my customers are more than pleased.

I am also very impressed with the machine’s safety features and safeguards. You can tell Columbia/ILSA spent a lot of time engineering their safety features throughout the machine. I thought I would have to worry about this but with this machine – I don’t have those concerns.

The Quick-Dri has really lived up to its name! My 55lb. HCS machine dries just as fast as my 35lb. Perc machine and it is a bigger machine.

CI: How has the reliability of the machine been since you installed it?

DE: The reliability has been very good. It takes a more in depth machine to clean with HydroCarbon and this machine is very well engineered. We have only replaced a couple of small parts and they were not even defective – they were just updates from Columbia/ILSA.

CI: How has the technical support and customer service been at Columbia/ILSA?

Columbia/ILSA’s technical support is excellent. Someone is always there who knows the product - I can always get through right away and get results. I have had to call a few times right in the middle of a busy time and got my answer right away and lost no down time. I am very pleased. Even my sales rep Butch gave me his cell phone number to call him in case I needed anything.

CI: How is their parts department to deal with?

DE: Well, I would tell you but since I have never had to order a part for the machine – I don’t know! I am sure it is like the rest of the company and its product – excellent.

CI: Would you recommend this machine and Columbia/ILSA to other people?

DE: I already have. A woman with a 13 year old Perc machine called me the other day – she needs to replace her machine with a HydroCarbon machine and wanted to know what I thought of the Columbia/ILSA HCS 550. After I told her what I thought, she took the time to drive a few hours to here and look at the machine in operation. I think this machine is an excellent product and I would recommend it and the company to other dry cleaning owners.

CI: Thank you for your time Dave. We look forward to continuing to serve you.

DE: My pleasure.

The new Columbia\Ilsa TL HCS machine is breaking records. The short dry time enables drycleaners to avoid installing a larger than necessary machine to compensate for longer cycle times to use a hydrocarbon solvent such as Exxon 2000. The wash time on Mark’s machine is 20 minutes. Even with this long wash time, Mark’s total cycle time is 50 to 55 minutes.

“Changing from perc to hydrocarbon solvent has been a pleasant surprise . We have found that the cleaning is better.”

"The cycle to obtain superior drycleaning is a two bath with a 5 minute pre wash to still, and then an 13 minute wash over the filter. The result is a lint free load with very little post spotting. The pressers have commented that the garments are easier to finish. The 25 minute drying time is as fast as the perc machine we replaced."
